    Freeview on TFT?

I've just bought a Samsung 205BW, and was wondering if there's any way for me to hook up my freeview box to it. Is there anything I can get to go from Scart to VGA? AFAIK, the Samsung has VGA, DVI and HDCP ports.

    Thanks

After a bit of research, I found this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-SCART-T.../dp/B0002W69MY

Have ordered it and will let you know how I get on.

I don't think that Hama cable will work dude. I think it requires a progressive signal to work and your monitor would have to be able to go down to 50hz refresh rate.

You could probably use one of those VGA Boxes from Lik-Sang, it will take composite or S-Video and up scale the resolution to around 1024x768. Quality will be pretty crap though and Samsung LCD would only highlight it more.

Get a Digital Freeview TV card for your PC - cost around £50. Quality will be really good and you'll have the added bonus of being able to record.

I'd recommend Black Gold DVB-T card & MCE 2005 to go with it.

I cba with a tuner card, because it means my pc will have to be on when I want to watch tv. I've used tuner cards before, and theyre more hassle than theyre worth.

I was looking to replace my dining room TV- which only works occasionally if you really thump it - with a TFT.
Found DVD players that have a VGA output, but couldn't work out whether they would allow a pass-through input from a freeview tuner.
You can get PVRs with built in freeview and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some with a VGA output.
Googling was a bit tedious due to variation on the output descriptor e.g. VGA, PC output. D-Sub, dsub.
Did occur to me that I would also have to plug into amp/speakers as well, so solution to have TV on an up to date screen, without the PC on, got a bit messy. Having said that, there are DVD players with builit in amps.

If you'd thought about it before buying the tft you could have forked out a bit more for a tft with inputs compatible with "regular" video sources. Usually cost a fair bit more but you pay for the features... I spent some time trying to work this out when my dad was keen on the idea. Tbh you either spend a lot on a conversion box and hope that it's quality is reasonable or you use a tv-tuner card in an htpc. They're all the rage these days Unfortunately no free options and possibly no cheap ones. For the record my TFT-television has a VGA input. The equipment is out there but a lot of it ins incompatible with other stuff so you really need to plan it from the start imo

I have a VGA TV box.....essentially, it converts *any* PC monitor with a VGA (D-Sub) input into a TV and also allows plugging of other goodies in through S-video/3 x phono connectors ! All this, and it runs at up to 1280x1024

TBH, I have never actually used it, and am likely putting it up FS, but - from what I know - most similar devices only support 1024x768 and that makes this ideal for 17"/19" TFTs.

If you put it up for sale, let me know . How much did it cost you?
