Smile How is this system please? Shuttle, E6600,

    Hello,

I'm putting together a PC for my mate. How does the below look please?

    Barebone
Shuttle SD37P2 Mini Aluminium Barebone system for P4 Socket 775, On Board VGA, 2xPCI-E, LAN, SATA, USB2, Firewire, 8ch. Audio, ATI Crossfire Ready, DDR2, Dual Core and 64 BIT Ready.

    CPU
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 1066FSB LGA775 4MB cache Retail inc.Fan

    Memory
    OCZ® Special Operation Edition 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800Mhz, 5-5-5-12 Dual Channel Kit with Spec Ops Camouflage Heatspreader ( 2 x 1 GB )

    Gfx
Asus Extreme X1900XTX 512MB DDR3, PCI-E, Dual DVI, VIVO, Retail

    Storage
    500 GB Western Digital Caviar SE16 SATA2 7200rpm 16MB cache HDD (oem)

    Monitor
    20" Viewsonic VX2025WM TFT Monitor widescreen 800:1 8ms black ?

Any suggestions will be gladly welcome. Any advise on the graphics card size ?? (I read that it should fit but it may take up the neighbouring PCI slot) Any advise as to components that are equally as good but better value would also be mucho appreciated!

    THANKS in advance.

    A couple of thoughts :

    SFF case
My wifes PC is a Shuttle SN25P, very nice and small - downside is that the heat inside means the fans are running at higher speeds most of the time which does make it quite LOUD. Your specs may have the same effect, high end components = more heat = fans speed up.

    Gfx card
Different case I know, but I had a real struggle getting a 6600GT in the SN25P - you need to check this out carefully for a much bigger card as it might be a problem.

    Monitor
I have the same one, very nice.

From a personal perspective I wouldn't go SFF again unless I had to, too restrictive, tricky access, limited flexibility, higher temps, limited overclock potential. They do look good, but not for performance hardware in my book.

    Chnks

You sure that motherboard will work with a E6600? It says Dual Core ready but it doesn't say anything regarding Conroe ready?

Looks good, although as mentioned....overclocking will be a no-no due to board and heat.

Board does support C2D according to shuttles website, been looking at one of these myself for a semi-portable system

    Thanks for all the hints

I had a SN41G2 before, with 6600GT, and yep had to cut out hole in side to fit the water block ,, managed to get it very quiet in the end though Hopefully will be able to find some nice big silent fans for it. Good point though Illl have to do some more research to ensure.

Agree with you Chunk about SFF, I moved all my bits out of my Shuttle into a full size case. But my mate really wants a Shuttle.

Yep seen a few prebuilt SD37P2 systems using the E6600 . Thanks for warning though.

Cool good good GG GG yeh nice monitor , similar to mine too

    Thanks everyone
