    VIA C3 'Nehemiah'

Can you run these CPU's with just a heatsink i.e. no fan.

    Cheers.

depends on the model, but generally yes. the (AMD) zalman copper flower is often a suitable replacement heatsink that can be left on without any fan. like so:

Thanks Joshwa, I've seen that pic before somewhere.

The CPU is on the EPIA M10000 so will remove the fan and see what temperate it fluctuates to. What is a safe temperature for these CPU's?

If it gets too hot I'll buy that heatsink you have got.

Also, I posted this in the hardware forum:-

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=88624

Sorry for linking it here, but I'm really stumped and don't know what the problem is.

Very frustrating as I can't pinpoint it on anything at the moment and one of my friends said it could be the motherboard playing up!

Going to check it over tonight to make sure nothing is shorting out.

    Appreciate your help buddy!

The hottest I let mine get was aroun 66 C - that was with the zalman on a 1.2ghz cpu. I think the stock heatsinks are designed to have a fan on them, so it may get too hot without some other fan somewhere, like a silent 80mm?

Hi mate, been looking for the Zalman Flower but can't see any for the EPIA M1000 motherboard. According 2 one review I read of the mobo you can't remove the headsink aas it's attached to the CPU???? ((((

    Cheers.

You can remove the heatsink on the m10000, I did you just have to squeeze the plastic clips at the back of the motherboard and pull / coax / twist the heatsink off. It may be stuck there with thermal paste or sticky stuff but should come off. Then you will need to clean it. The copper flower isn't designed for the EPIA, but you can use the AMD (socket a) copper flower if you can find it. Hope that helps

Thanks Joshwa will look for one 2moz...errr today!

Can you tell me the height of it? I've only got a small Tranquil T3 case and looks like it may well be too big!

Think I would have clearance problems! Are there any other heatsinks you can recommend which are a tad smaller than the Zalman Flower?

    TY! =]
