Unhappy Barton 2500+ boots at 1094 mhz

    hey

just installed a new barton, but my mobo will only run it at 100 fsb (1094mhz). if i try raising the fsb to 133, it shutdown after a few seconds, and if set to 166, it pretty much shuts down straight away. Using a chieftec 360w psu and have latest bios for my mobo

    any help would be sweet

Hmm, Nforce2 chipset, it *should* be fine with it.. smells like a dead chip at the moment..

have you tried clearing the BIOS - it may still be trying to run it as a duron (i.e. voltages etc...) - always a good idea to reset BIOS/CMOS when installing a completely different processor - try that first.

A dead chip doesn't always mean completely dead, maybe "faulty" would have been a better choice of words..

The MSI boards have a little extra jumper on them.

Look for the 100mhz jumper on the board (use the manual to find it).

Switch it over and it should now work correctly.

MSI are the only manufacturer (as far as I am currently aware) who followed nVidia's reference design and included this little jumper incase of system overclock failure.

You would have never known it was there as the duron only has a 100mhz FSB

when ever i short the j11 jumper to 133/166 mhz mode, it does the same thing. have left the jumper open at the mo so i can boot up

currently have the j10 jumper set to safe mode (100mhz) so i can boot up. This morning i managed to have this jumper in user mode (133 mhz) and had it running at 133 fsb

ho hum! just tried this j10 jumper again and switched it to 133 mode and pc boots up ok, time to see if it will let me actually increase the fsb, brb

Switch the jumper to 133 and then clear the CMOS

What heatsink have you got on that???

It _could_ be temperature related. If you can boot into the BIOS in 133 jumpered mode, monitor it a while.
