Silver burn surface DVDs?

I'm planning on knocking up some DVDs soon. I need around 100 made and so glass mastering isn't cost effective in which case I'd like to burn them myself. I need them to look pretty professional so I was wondering if you can get blank DVDs with a silver burn surface?

I'm not sure if it's a technology thing or just something to stop people fobbing off pirated discs but I don't think I've ever seen any without a coloured underside.

Any ideas?

Never seen silver surface DVDs. i think this is a technology thing. Even normal CD-Rs are almost silver as the die doesn't been to be as strong/thick to work. With DVDs the die has to be a lot darker.

I'm sure it is to avoid piracy, although I did have some CDs a few years back that you couldn't easily tell which side was which as they were both silver, man that got anoying. The writable side infact had a slight green/tourquise colouring to it so in the right light you could tell.

i used to hate those discs.

esp when the top got damaged the silver stuff literally would rip off and u would lose the data.

Yup, cheap discs really aren't worth it.

To be honest Norky you'll have to go either colourful underside or get them professionally (sp?) pressed.

Does anyone have any experience with inkjet printable discs? I was thinking about getting an Epson R220 which has a disc printing tray.

AFAIK thet wont look much different to just using labels. However labels do look good, even better i would guess if you used a laser printer.

Labels have problems though, you can't use them in stackers as they get too hot.

We have a R220 at work, not used it yet though. If you do want one you'd beter be quick, they are EOL, Scan have removed them from their list i think.

well there are other printers that print directly onto CD, bu not at the price the R220 was available at (~£60)

I have an Epson R200 that does inkjet printable discs and once you get used to setting up the printer the results are worth it.
