    180fps on Oblivion with a 7900gs?

As some of you already know I just built a computer for my brother consisting of an Asus M2N-E, an XFX 7900gs, an AM2 3200+ and a few other bits. I installed Oblivion on it and put all the settings up to full with a resolution of 1280x1024 just for giggles. I started playing and I was very suprised to see that I was getting anything from about 80fps to 180fps . After looking closely I realised that the resolution had, infact, not changed. It was still on 800x600 or something. Try as I might I cant seem to get it to change. What have I done?

You have the latest drivers right and it was a new format on the hard drive right?

Yep, all the drivers are there (well, the ones that were on the cd) and the desktop is set to 1280x1024. Sould I try and download new drivers for the graphics card?

Do you have a second display connected?

I have noticed that games only present you a list of resolutions valid for the primary display.....sometimes the displays can get reversed....so if you have a 800x600 screen (probably a TV) connected to the second port, you may need to swap the connectors around.

Do you mean it will only run on low graphics settings or it wont run at all? If it doesn't run at all it is more likely to be software related.

You have definitely got a p[roblem on that somewhere then.
My specs are around yours (even though i have LGA775 overclocked) and Oblivion runs beautifully with decent frame rates.

Okay, I installed the drivers and it still doesn't work *sob*. The only reason I care is that if it doesn't work properly by brother will taking it apart to fix it (we all know where that leads). Any other ideas?
