    Help me quieten the Raptor!

I've finally got the PC as silent as itll go (fanwise) and the only thing that is now audible to me is the Raptor.

At the moment, the Raptor is sat in the hard drive cage and is held in place by 4 thumbscrews. The cage is aluminium and it seems to make the drive louder. Suspending it on elastic might work, but i wont be able to get any cooling to it if i do that, so i think an enclosure that deadens the sound and cools the drive is what i need. Ive been looking and theres shedloads, so i need some feedback from people that actually own one that they can recommend.

It can take up a 5.25 bay, or possibly 2 and i could stick the other 2 drives in there. Oh and if it is going in a 5.25 bay and is visible from outside, it needs to be silver aluminium in colour.

    any suggestions?

    Ta

i duno, is it vibration or drive(spindle) noise?

if its vibration why dont you get some sort of rubber/washer type things and then screw it on, it might stop vibration -IF ITS THE VIBRATION......

Nope, its the chatter when it is under load, not vibration or spindle noise.

I have this, admittedly for my spinpoint so it's not as loud as a raptor anyway, but makes it silent, can't hear it at all anymore. One thing i would say is that it's advertised as cutting down vibration a lot, yet i still feel quite a lot coming from the box, but not enough to hear. Not used a raptor though so i don't know how it would work for that.

As for temps, I never checked before i put it in, but speedfan says average heat is 37c and mine is 38 so it doesn't make it cooler if that's what you're after, it just deadens the noise and some of the vibration.

Wow i'm actually helping YOU for once

    Hope that's useful!

I have a quietbox, It does increase the temp a little, but that would depend on your case (mine is sandwhiched).

i got an idea ! what about getting some foam (or noise dampening stuff) and cover the inside left+right sides of the case, not sure if it would work or if it would look all that good .. But i5t culd muffle the noise a little....

You mean something like the Akasa PaxMate kit? I can't see it really doing much to be honest... unless anyone can tell me otherwise?

Also interested in silencing my Raptor though and what the effect on temperature is in those closures.

Everest currently reads my Raptor at 29°C as a comparison.

Nah i have headphones instead Mate uses them and swears by them. They are supposed the cool the drive too, works pretty well with a fan. Basically acting as a wrap around heatsink. I doubt you'll have any problems with just one drive. If you stacked a load maybe with no airflow.

They certainly do look interesting, these
seem to be ok as well, does anyone have one? The only problem i can see with the Scythe one is that it might be a tiny bit too long and might get in the way of the pipes coming out of the rad, although I'm sure I can fit it in somewhere
