    quick dvi question

Building a new gaming rig for a mate, we had settled on the x1950 pro as the graphics card.

He wants to keep his crt and i'm trying to find out if this card is dual dvi-d:

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...5&GroupID=1227

Would i be right in thinking that unlike dvi-i you can't simply put a dongle on a dvi-d port so that it works with a crt?

And can anyone give a definite answer on the ports that this card has, the microdirect website seems to contradict itself and i can't seem to get a clear idea from the sapphire website.

    Cheers

Correct. You cant put a converter on a DVI-D port for a CRT. It physicaly wouldnt fit for a start
Secondly, DVI-D is digital only. Not much use for a CRT.

As for the card, im almost certain it will be a DVI-I output. They would only be shooting themself in the foot by not providing digital and analogue.
Infact, DVI-D cards are almost unheard of. Its usualy only used for onboard graphics, where there is a standard D-sub analogue port next to the DVI-D port

Thanks guys for putting my mind at ease

magneticman thanks for the offer, it's very much appreciated. After more googling i find a review which showed the box contents, including 2 convertors so it's looking good.

If it has converters with it, they *must* be DVI-I
DVI-I and DVI-D have physical differences with the socket to stop you putting a converter on it

There is 3 types of DVI port.

    DVI-D = Digital only
    DVI-A = Analogue only
DVI-I = Both of the above

Very rare to see DVI-A though
