    Crucial 3200

    This beeing my first time using DDR400, i was wondering if you have to have a 400fsb processor to run the 400mhz ddr. The reason for this is the fact i'm still using my olf Athalon XP 1800 Palamino core. I'm gonna overclock hopfully to about 2100 or 2200 speed. what ya think?

    yeah, but anything is just about better than what i have now. I'm buying a new heatsink that caught my eye too, it eh Aerocool Deep Impact and it uses a huge superconductor. performes pretty good.

    yeah, but 1800+ palaminos were still horrible overclockers regardless of what you strap on top.

    you CAN run memory out of synch with the processort (e.g. 400mhz ram, 266mhz processor) but they don't respond very favourably in terms of speed

    What mobo do you have? It's unlikely that you can get a pally to clock upto 200fsb anyway, but you'll need a mobo with a locked pci/agp or a 1/6 divider to get anywhere near that - also keep in mind that a palamino will need to have multipliers unlocked, there is a painting guide Here

    If you have the following:
    - MB with VIA KT400A/600 or nForce2 Ultra chipset
    - unlocked your CPU via connecting lvl 1 bridges;
    you can get that Palomino of yours to 200 FSB by dropping the multiplier to something reasonable like, 8, netting you 1.6Ghz(8*200=1.6Ghz).

    FYI, my highest Palomino overclock was 1.85Ghz (AGOIA core).

    It's a shame you didn't add an old tbred b or a barton to that shopping basket of yours - it'll make a world of difference.
