Logitech Mouse/Keyboard

I've just inherited a Logitech Cordless Mouse/Keyboard package.

It's not the newer one with the MX700 mouse, etc I don't think.

I've just got a couple of questions on it.

Firstly, the keyboard takes 4 AA and the mouse 2 AA batteries ... How long can I expect these to last, and is it wise to buy a set of rechargable ones and a charger?

Secondly, why doesn't the keyboard have num/scroll/caps lock LEDs? That could get a bit irritating

And are there any special drivers/software I should use for the mouse? There's no way of setting the report rate unlike with my other corded optical mouse.

the keyboard is the same as the one in my Cordelss desktop deluxe (the one with the mx700 mouse) - and the lights are on the transmitter!!! (there on MY transmiter ne way)

the baterrys have last for the last 3 mouths (since i bought it) and there still on status "good"

- so should last for ages!!

Hmm... Any way to overcome the VERY SLIGHT lag on both the kb and mouse? Can it be something to do with the fact that these batteries aren't new? (Status "GOOD" Though)

I think that on most cordless keyboards and mice there is a bit of lag, regardless of the batteries. Not completely sure though...

I used that combo of mouse/keyboard (well identical one) for atleast 2 years, probably nearer 3. they were quite frankly the best keyboard mouse combo i found, i even tried the new bluetooth microsoft keyboard/mouse set but it wasn't as good so took it back for refund. (and got away with it!) The 4 batteries in the keyboard seemed to last around 8+ months or so, however the mouse was no where near as long - probably nearer 2 months. I would consider myself a 'heavy user' as well when thinking about the amount of time spent on them (ex everquest addict) stick duracell in the keyboard and forget about it, but rechargables in the mouse i would recommend, and have a second set on charge for next week!

only annoying thing was recently the mouse was needing a 'wake up' everytime i tried to use it for some reason. had to click a button before it would register moving. assigned 'shift' to the thumb button...

i don't think mice/keyboards have much lag unless youre not using them, when they seem to go into some kind of hibernation, taking a bit to wake up.

Well I wouldn't be online quite this early yet, but I had a sudden desire to use them... They're that god damn sexy in my opinion...

The mouse was sleeping (could see no lights on at all) nice and quietly till I woke it up when windows had booted didn't take long at all.

What's the best position for the cordless receiver? I've got it sort of "half way" between my monitor and PC case (about 12-14 inches from both)..

Sometimes the mouse feels a tiny bit "erratic". Could this be due to batteries or what?

Sorry for all the questions, cordless technology is rather new to me!!!

occasionally when I'm typing something fast, the keyboard lags behind very slightly, but that's no big deal. Had a quick game of Vice City last night and it was lovely. Will try more fast paced stuff (UT2003) later.

try repositioning the receiver. I found that closer wasn't actually always better, and after a while of moving it, it ended up sat under my monitor, with the mouse and keyboard being used a bit below and about a metre away.

I have the same set, the report rate on the mouse is fixed like that, so better stick wireless for gaming

I had exactly that set up until I replaced the mouse with the MX700 so I can confirm that the keyboard batteries should last about six months and the mouse batteries should last about two months.

There are no LEDs on the keyboard because of battery issues. You should be using the Logitech drivers and software because one of the options is an onscreen status sign that pops up for two seconds when you hit the Caps Lock, Num key etc. With the earlier versions of the keyboard software, you could have the three key status indicators on the sys tray at bottom right of the start bar but the latest version has done away with that.

I thought having no status LEDs would be a pain in the butt, but it's turned out not to be the case - and I've never found the keyboard to lag on my typing, mind you I'm only 40 wpm.

I've an older version of the mouse/keyboard combo and I just gave up on the mouse and opted for the Logitech Optical Mouse - much more responsive. The keyboard is a real gem - fast, responsive and you can just about type from anywhere...

i think the lag on the mouse is something u aint gonna be able to avoid unless you get yourself an MX700 to compliment the keyboard

Logitech Bluetooth DiNova, it has a mx900 mouse with it. Very nice! even has an LCD screen telling me what the emails i receive are when i actually bought it, my keyboard had actually broken - i attempted a repair with some silver track fluid to fix some corroded tracks and then the keyboard wouldn't work at all. bought the new one, hen figured 'what the hell' and phoned logitechs support line. they said to short out the battery connectors as it would discharge the capacitors. did that, and it worked perfectly even with my reapirs! its now sat on an old PC i use about once a month!

Alan - which keyboard are you using? the two or 4 battery version?

Even this set is lovely to use, absolutely gorgeous. It might not have the MX700 mouse but that's no big deal... How much better is the lag situation with the MX700 than with the older Cordless Mouseman Optical?
