Urgent Help needed
I'm putting my new rig together as I type, but I've got a silly Q.
Im about to install an e6600 onto a p5w, using a stock heatsink (I know, ill replace it when I get a chance), but my query is, Does the stock e6600 (retail box) heatsink come with thermal paste etc already applied?
I've looked at the bottom of the h/s and theres 3 shapes on the gold panel bit that look like :
________
/_________\
__________
|__________|
____________
\__________/
Is that the thermal compound?
I know this will probly get a big LOL from some people , but I've only ever installed AMD chips before, and theyve come with everything already applied/attached, but I need to be sure so I dont fry my new conroe :)
TIA

is it a paste?.. or just a shape
-
Theres like a gold flat surface on the underside, and those 3 raised shapes ontop of that. Looking again, they look like grey plasticine type material, with like a crosshatched texture.
Trying to find a pic
-
Can't find a pic and dont have my camera with me, but Ive read on a few forums that Intel stock h/s come with compound already attached. I'd just like someone here whos installed one to confirm that before I go ahead.

Yes it's the thermal stuff, don't know if it's a pad or paste (not touched it)
but on my E6600 with stock h/s I'm getting 30c at idol and 40c at full long load

yep it should be paste, at least is was on my e6300.
-
on mine it was a circle of grey stuff.

The 3 strips is normal on many C2D's and should produce good enough results
