    Creative 5.1 5300 with NF7-S (sound storm)

    Hi guys.

These babies arrive this morning brought for £37. They are damn nice

However, i cant get the full surround sound working, does anyone know how to set-up surround sound.

All the speakers are connected into the sub-woofer. From there is a 3 port cable jack, with black, green, and orange port. These are plugged into the Sound Storm on the NF7-S (v2.0)

My previous set-up was only 2 speakers, and i cant get all the speakers to work, it says left, centre, right, left surround, right surround all out the from speakers. I have tried using the wizard in the Sound storm control panel but it is still just out the from two.

Can anyone help me with this?

    very much appreciated.

    Will

    thanks very much Howard.

I turned it off, but now all the speakers are in a random order. the Right says left, the back left says centre etc....and there is no right surround.

    anyone got more help?

IIRC the likes of Creative 5.1 5300 were designed with Creative's own sound cards in mind and need the likes of the Live to get full functionality ... although you should certainly get more than you currently have. Take a good look through the control panel and sound volume advanced sections. Ensure all drivers are the latest too. Check all connections and try swapping what's connected where. Most nForce2 have shared outputs so may still be active as mic, line-in etc. Keep us informed. Also do they have hall surround functionality? ie. Do they have the option of sending any std stereo 2 speaker source to all of the 4 surround speakers (so stereo in front and behind)? I'd hate to think of all but 2 speakers spending most of their time idle.

Well i finally have it all working, and all the cabling is nicely tied up. The problem was that the black and orange connectors were the wrong way round i.e. the black had to go in the orange port on sound storm. I now have the nice person on the sound storm saying 'left' 'centre' 'right' 'surround left' 'surround right' WHOOP

The speakers are very nice, a huge set up from a 2 speaker set up. Deliver very nice sounds quality, that is crisp and clear all the way to the loudest setting, which is loud. Just listened to some dire straights - sultans of swing. cracking. Now some greenday - 86 and got some lovely bass.

    They really are cool

    thanks for all the help

good job i forced you into spending all that money (£37) to buy them then . glad you like them, shame my speakers are only 4.1, still they do my fine - well done for getting them all working aswell, dont seem to be especially b-grade then.

where'd you get those speakers from? I'm looking to buy the model up (the one with a digital input) as imho the soundstorm is only really very good with that - tis better than an audiogy2 with the digital out (or so i hear)

where do you reccomend i get speakers from?

Do you guys think the digital out is worth the added cost? Also can anyone confirm you can send a dual stereo signal to the 4 main speakers if no surround sound source is in use? I lack both the space and the money but it's very tempting none-the-less. Anyone with Altec Lansing ADA885MG they're looking to get rid of (I missed them on Special)?

Optical I think depends totally on what its going into, a top range Denon decoder - yes as it'll have better DACs as your soundcard ... Creative speakers, it'll most prob have the same or worse DACs than your soundcard so you'll get better quality through analogue!

Well the are considerably better than my old Labtec's there is a lot more to them .

Each of the small speakers (about 10cm high) is as heavy as my 30cm midi Hi-Fi (awia) considerably better. As my hi-fi went all gay at high volume, and teh CD skipped..
