The MPU401 is the soundcards external MIDI interface (when you plug like MIDI keyboards into your Soundcard)!

Whats the soundcard ... or motherboard that the soundcards on?

the motherboard is a Jetway V266B and the sound card is a Hercules Muse Lt 16bit surroundsound

I've also tried the on-board sound and the same happens?
