    video editing pc spec help

Sorry for the lack of detail in this post, but i havn't been keeping up with the hardware like i used to, about all I'm aware of is the conroes are supposedly rather good these days and have taken the crown away from amd.

I'm building a pc for a friend with a budget of £600, he uses adobe premier for video creation and flash, photoshop etc. Its a work pc but will have the odd game on it.

I have no idea where to start on this...certainly dual core, but intel or amd? and what Mainboard and graphics card? what gives the best bang for the buck? also would a 1 36GB raptor hdd for os and swap be beneficial? The only thing that isn't needed is the monitor and keyboard...What would people suggest, can you give me some pointers?

    Currently I have this..

dual core processor of some sort
    2GB some type of ram

well, graphics card isn't such a big deal unless Premiere uses the gpu in some way. 3D graphics work, on the other hand.........

intel is better power right now for dual core.

36GB raptor would be cool for OS - what major size media drive you going to get?

I was thinking of 400GB for now, maybe 250GB and upgrade later when there is more money avaliable. I'm using the samsung spinpoints in my pc, so one of those - nice and cheap too. He is getting by on something like 40GB atm

k, I've thrown together some components...what do people think?

    LN11461 250 Gb Samsung SP2504C SpinPoint P120, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 9.0 ms, NCQ £42.66 £50.13
    LN14584 36 Gb Western Digital WD360ADFD Raptor, SATA150, 10000 rpm, 16MB Cache, 5.2 ms, NCQ £63.59 £74.72
    LN5993 480W Tagan TG480-U01 Quiet ATX2.0 SLi 12v EPS/SATA/XEON 3 Years Warranty ATX/BTX £49.99 £58.74
    LN4712 Sony 52x24x52 CD-R/RW IDE Ivory £8.00 £9.40
    LN15199 AKASA Zen case - White Silent cool Midi-ATX Computing case w/2 silent 12cm fan & front I/O ports £27.49 £32.30
    LN12201 2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15 £119.53 £140.45
    LN15451 MSI P965NEO-F i965, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533 667 800, SATA II, ATX £58.39 £68.61
    LN15047 Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, Socket 775, 1.86 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Allendale Core, 2MB Cache, Retail £106.89 £125.60
    LN15804 256MB Gigabyte 7300GT PCI-E (x16), Mem 800MHz, GPU 450MHz, 8 Pipes, D-Sub/DVI-I/S-Video Silent-Pipe £51.79 £60.85

Not sure on the psu, the total is currently running at £620. which is slightly over budget.

Is the PSU overkill? could i make a saving there?
    Also, whats the 7300GT like?
I know the raptor is a nice touch as phrased earlier, but will it have a significant impact? - if i ditched it i could get the E6400 processor

    http://www.awd-it.com/scripts/prodVi...?idproduct=327

Comes with a Decent 380w PSU. And I know for a fact it works fine with a core 2 duo and a fairly decent GFX card. So will work fine for you.

    Saves about £40 too?

Its been pointed out to me that the WD 250gb drive is a similar price but it has a 16mb cashe. So unless noise is a concer I would consider that.

yeppy, 250 gigs is the sweet spot for now. but grabbing a 300/320 is not insane

im looking into getting a raptor myself, only heard good things and as far as i remember i don't recall seeing a story around here of one failing. which is odd :s
