    Want a quiter PC?

    Get a good power supply.

Antec truepower 430w thingy in and running....

whisper quiet. Cant believe it.....looked inside through the fan grill to see why.

Heatsinks the size of a Suzuki Vitara with big arches, thats why

and two fans. Both extracting out of my case. So now there is less turbulence in my case. So have reversed a case fan that WAS sucking out of the back to blowing in. Got quieter again

And I know the airflow is working BECAUSE....

Put PC case on table. Take side off......use CLINGFILM and TAPE....

tape up entire side of case, as TIGHT as you can get the clingfilm.

So its like a "skin" across the entire side.

Then stand at the side looking down the length of the side......and POWER UP...

does the clingfilm BILLOW OUT or SUCK IN....?

if neither....you got good balanced airflow.

Did this last over 3 years ago, when I first got involved with Hexus. David had never heard of it. I think I might be the only one to think of it.

Works too....noise is turbulence. Get good airflow. Noise goes down.

    happy boy

That side clingfilm trick is a really good idea but seeing as I don't have any case fans its a little pointless .. but I'll keep it in mind for other builds!

Thats basically the only thing that makes the most noise in my system ... other than that its almost totally slient although its the actual platter spinning thats making the noise rather than the vibrations!

... seagate in a silent drive pretty quiet

If you can hear your HD over your fans (like me) then your well on the road to a quiet PC!

I've done the whole sliencing foam stuff round the case, the HDD gets REALLY hot when in use so I don't really want to encase it in anything unless it can act as a heatsink as well (and obviously, no fans)!
