    Which Mobo?

    Hi All,

I'm currently in the market for another motherboard as my Intel 865GLC has some capacitors that are looking a little bulged.

My choices for my next (buget) mobo are the Asrock 775 I65g with the intel 865G chipset or the Asrock 775 Dual-VSTA with VIA chipset.

I know that the dual is a little more future proof havig a PCI-E slot and supporting DDR2 but I wont be needing those before another upgrade at a later date as I have just bought 2GB of twinX C2 pc3200 and a XFX 7600 graphics card for my current system.... All this before i noticed the capacitors I will be fitting a P4 D925 cpu to my new board

SO!...I know they're not the fastest boards in the world but which mobo would you choose out of the two and why?

    Many Thanks

    John

If I were you I would get the dual as you will probably want to upgrade at some point. Carefull with your capacitors, I know someone who blow them off someones motherboard while he was fixing it. it left a dent in the side of the case. BTW I love your pic. Did u make it?

Edit: Just read danroyle's pot. I didn't realise that the second one didn't suport DDR or AGP (I presumed it was one of those cross compatable boards)

    Hi Guys,

They both support my existing hardware, I was actually looking for a bit more info on the chipsets really. Do you have any experience with them as I've read a few reports of VIA chipsets not being as reliable as Intels stuff.

BlindMelon, the pic was downloaded from somewhere on web a while ago and is an animated gif, not here here though

    Cheers

I'm not really interested in oc'ing at the moment as this is my first new build. I just want a reliable base system.
I notice that the P4 D930 and 940 cpu's are droping in price now though, so I think I may be enticed towards one of those for my new board, however the Core 2 Duo's may save me money over the next couple of years with a lower power consumption.

Jeez I wish I had a million £'s ... Mind you! even with loads of money, something else would still come alond pretty soon that was faster. Least I'd be able to afford it though
