    2 Motherboards - Stopped Working

    The two motherboards:

    Abit NF7-S v2.0

    pretend its a nf7

    ------------------------------------------
    MSI KT4V

    -----------------------------------------

    The problem:

Yesterday i got my new NF7-s, plugged everything in, and all was well.
Temps were a bit high so i decided to put a bit more Artic silver 3 on and lap the heatsink a bit.
Once i had it all lapped i put the cpu and heatsink back on and nothing was displayed on the monitor but all the fan's, hdd's and CD drives powered up.

At first i thought it was the graphics card that had died, so i decided to test it on another machine - it worked.

Then i thought i might have crushed the cpu when resitting the heatsink, so this time i decided to test my AMD 1900+ from another machine on the NF7-S - Didn't work.

Just to make sure my AMD 1800+ (which was in the NF7 to start with) cpu was working i tested it in my other pc's MSI KT4V.

Strangely it didn't work, i had the same problem as i have with my NF7-S, nothing on monitor displayed. Agian i thought it was the gfx card so i put in 1 that i was sure was working - still no work.

So now i have 2 motherboards not working with the same problem.

I tested every single component on a working motherboard so i am 100% sure its something to do with the boards.

    -------------------------------------------------

When i recieved the board i did notice this on the back of the northbridge

I didn't really card to begin with as the board worked fine for a while.

I really get the feeling Abit boards are very bad quality, i was reading the abit forums and i see AN7's with cut traces on the back, mobo's with hand solders components etc.

Peeps lap old naff gpu heatsinks. If you need to lap a cpu heatsink your in dire need of buying a new heatsink in the first place.

More constructively, Shepps question above is a good one, though I note you state at the end that all components are working elsewhere.

Possible things that trip peeps up are forgetting to plug in the ATX connector (with fans powered off the mobo) which can confuse the results. No mention above of flipping the cmos? Also, dont under estimate how firmly you sometimes have to push in new agp cards/slots.

That last pick looks like there is a fair chance the mobo is dead tbh.

Well the thing is it worked with that mark on the back for a while.

    Heatsink is a Volcano 7+.

That mark is from the back of the northbridge.
