Question PC wont boot, help please...

    Hello,

Been giving a PC to fix and it wont boot, no power. No lights and no fans spinning round.

    Get a new PSU.

Connected new PSU and now i have a green light on the front of the case but still wont boot. No fans spinning just this green light on the front of case.

Any idea what else could be wrong ? i have checked connections they seem good.

It just cut out while in use not been on since.

    Thanks Ben

Does it even post? If not something is dead, do you get any messages on the screen or any bleeps from the motherboard..?
Try changing the ram for some new if possible.

Unplug the reset switch. You may have a short somewhere with it, I've had it and it confused the hell out of me.

Take the board out of the case and put it on something with no static (like a cardboard box). Unplug everything except the Video Card and RAM. You will need some way of turning it on - you can leave the power connector attached to the on button, although you can just make the connection using a screwdriver.

You can swap over RAM and Video to check it's not them, but I'd be surprised if it was either. It may be worth resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or even removing the battery completely for 30 seconds.

If it's not running in this minimum configuation chances are it's the CPU or mobo.

If it is running then it may be that the mobo was shorting on the case, so make sure there are no loose screws or other bits of metal in the case, don't overtighten the mobo screws and check carefully that the mobo is touching nothing but the mounts. If it still runs after this add back connectors one at a time.
