    opty 144 or 146? opinions...

    hi,
    might be able to get me a opty 144 that does 2.8ghz... its 939 socket and 1.8ghz as stock which is what i thought the 146 was... so whats the difference?should i get it or wait for a 146? i just dont know!

    The 146 is 2.0GHz.

    2.8GHz depends entirely on your motherboard, as a 144 will need to be able to do 310MHz+ on the HTT for 2.8GHz. I know for certain mine can't do 280+ (ASUS A8R32-MVP), but my 146 won't go over 2.7 24/7 stable anyway, so I'm not fussed.

    Basically, if you really want the MHz, go for the 146 as a safer bet with its higher multiplier. Otherwise, you'll have to ask yourself whether the extra 200MHz or so you'll probably get out of it is worth the wait and/or price difference.
