Just directly replaced my 3000+ chip with a dual core 4800+ - Boot/post problems :S

    Hi guys,

As the thread title really. When i power on, i get a the monitor button flashing & no post. I push the reset button, then magically, life! This happens every time, and although its only been in a day, its quite annoying.

Im not sure if i will need to adjust motherboard settings/voltages to cope with the new chip?

Thinking of updating the bios, or reinstalling the chipset drivers or whatever to cure it.

Some people i spoke to reckond it could be the PSU, but it is a brand new 500w scan one & i only run 2 pci cards on the board, thats it. No crazy graphics card- an old riva tnt 16mb.

Its worth noting, windows recognised the new hardware & installed all the dualcore stuff, drivers and that, but i think the problem lies in the actual bios settings for some reason.

    Any thoughts lads?

    Cheers

    Kev

if there's a new bios update, try that... what make is your 500w PSU? maybe try reseting the cmos (with the jumper on the board) and see if that helps

I have the same problem but it is not proc related.

I have a Dual DVI graphics card which my mobo doesnt support, so it doesn't give A/V signal until reset.

Maybe your mobo has a similar compatability issue but with your processor.

Try turning speakers on and turn pc on, don't reset and see if you hear windows boot up.

Sounds like a bios flash is needed, my Gigabyte was flaky when I installed a 4800+ until I updated bios.

The bios should auto-detect voltage etc so there shouldn't need to be any changes there unless you want to o/c.

Check all the power connectors are firmly attached.
Updating chipset drivers won't do anything as they're nothing to do with post.

Try resetting the cmos, could be as simple as that, failing that, its looking like you need a bios update
