2: Can I upload a MIDI to my webspace and download it to my WAP mobile which accepts MIDI file extensions as ringtones?

1. In short, no.

MIDI stores information about instrument 'parts' e.g. keyboard, guitar, tempo, patterns, timings, key signatures etc. whereas MP3 and WAV store raw audio (frequency and volume information).

In other words, MP3s contain no information about what instruments are being played, how many tracks make up the arrangement or what timings are used and there is no reliable way to construct this information from RAW frequencies and volume information.

2. You'd be better downloading the MIDI file to your PC and uploading to your phone using a Bluetooth or IR adapter.

I have tried a few programs which try and do MP3/wav - > midi. Dont waste your time !!

Although you can go the other way quite sucessfully, as the insturments just play, and this is recorded as rew sound.

Have done the same. Wasted a good weekend to get MP3s from those mobile phone sites where you can preview polyphonic ring tones, and then tried to convert them to MIDI to no avail.

Its quicker to simply sit down at a piano with the mp3 and work out the main tune then play it through the Keyboard (or piano - if you have a good one) and get it into Sibelius then save as a MIDI from there ... although does require a musical ear!

Cant... no IR/Bluetooth, but my new fone (If I get it) will have IR... but my PC dont have IR LOL...

But If I upload the MIDI's to my webspace and enter the address into the fone and directly retreive it, it costs £0.00 cos its not enuff of a download to charge me on GPRS! WOOO

... but they sound Panda cos my Nokia's poly tones suck ass

Only if you're phone has an HTML browser, otherwise you'll need to be served WML.

As far as GPRS charges go, it depends on the operator I suppose, but GPRS is metered by the byte and the operators are perfectly capable of charging you for it. I can't see a MIDI file breaking the bank, though!
