How can I tell if my AsusP5LD2 supports Core2Duo?

I no longer have the packaging so don't know the serial number

How can I tell if my mobo supports Core2Duo CPU?

Asus have not answered my question but do say support exists from PCB2.0 on - whatever that means.....so how can I tell if my mobo is one of those?

You should be able to find the revision number either on a sticker on the board or etched on (look for white lettering on the board itself).

Also, some system information programs (google for PCWizard - comes from the same site as CPU-Z - or Everest Home) can give you more detailed information like that.

Failing that, if (maybe unlikely if you don't even have the packaging) you still have the invoice, possibly in an email, from where you bought it, it might tell you the revision. I bought my A8V-Deluxe from microdirect.co.uk and back then they had two models listed, one marked "Rev.2", that's the one I got so there's a slim chance your original supplier might have that information.

Now I think about it, occasionally the spec of some parts (like onboard audio, SATA controllers etc.) changes between revisions of the same model board so you might be able to work it out from product information on ASUS website.

If I think of anything else I'll post here again.

Oh, you could always just try it... If it doesn't work then chuck your current chip back in and update the BIOS. If that still doesn't sort it then you'd need a new board anyway

I discovered my board was Rev 1.02 so there goed that idea for a while.

Ah, shame... Used to be you could just buy a new CPU and chuck it in your current rig, nowadays everytime I go to get a processor upgrade it seems to require new motherboard, memory and graphics card all at the same time as things change so fast now...

On the upside for you tho, if your current board is new enough to have maybe supported Core 2 Duo then that plus your current CPU should sell for enough to cover at least the cost of the board. Presuming you had the cash to get the Core 2 now anyway, that might be a way of upgrading sooner rather than later?
