But i am going to give them the benefit of the doubt because under the mouse it says, 'Manufactured: October 2006', so it's quite new, and hope razer fix this.

*the mouse will still work as Xp will install HCI drivers, however this could also be the problem lol. Anyone help?
I'm going on a hunch for a possible fix from when I used my Copperhead (same'ish tech as your new mouse).

Plug the mouse into a USB1.1 port instead of a USB2.0 port and the drivers should find the mouse. Or if you haven't got any USB1.1 ports you could try going into your motherboard BIOS and disable USB2.0 support although I'm not sure that'll make 'em like USB1.1 but you never know so best bet is try it in a USB1.1 port on an old PC should you only have USB2.0 in your current PC.

Which I would do probably. I'm in the wired camp really - less hassle, less cost, no lag. If you need it for practical reasons (moving around the room) then it makes sense, otherwise not.

This IS aesthetically pleasing and made from the highest grade materials I have ever seen, it's just a glow ffs, gamers accessories tend to have touches like this.

Exactly. Look at the Logitech G15. Clearly designed for gamers and has lights and an LCD screen. Most gamers accessories (read: high dpi mice and sensitive keyboards) are likely to have lights or some other gimmik.

As for the mouse, it looks pretty nice. What's it like to use? Nice and smooth? On what surface?

The more lights the better - i like a bit of bling. I didn't (just) buy it for that tho I bought it because I really like the feel of MS mice and this coupled with the high res configurability of this mouse looks perfect to replace my intellimouse explorer.

What do you mean wireless is bad for gaming? who you tryin to fool......fool. I have used the G7 for ages in plenty of games, cs being one of them and it i was flawless. Always have been. it might be 'dire' if YOU buy cheap ones but decent ones can be fantastic.

And his post was perfectly readable. so not sure what you were going on about there either. hmmmmmm BEAT DOWN OVER.

As for the mouse...i like it! Good combination of MS and Razer in the styling, lets just hope it's more like the razer in terms of performance!
