Asus vs XFX

hello all,

At those of you who have read my previous posts on the G80, you can probably guess I am very excited.

Anyway, could anyone tell me who, out of XFX and Asus, has the better/faster graphics cards at the SAME CLOCK? For example, I definetly know an extreme edition XFX 7900 at, say, 1700mhz mem speed will beat an Asus 7900 at 1600 (standard), but I want to know whether an XFX 8800 at (made up numbers coming up) 1500mhz memory speed would beat an Asus 8800 at 1500mhz memory speed.

I'd be appreciative of any help!!!!

They would be the same, no difference at all. However I would go with asus as I prefer their warranty, and the fact XFX are basically a budget choice with a different name.

Heh, i never really go on warranty (as I usually void it within the first month). My personal preference is XFX, mainly because i like the build quality and the look of the card - as well as the performance. I would guess that it depends quite a lot on how well the card is cooled - something that i'm not really rich enough to test

XFX is well known as the best card overclocker manufacturer out there. But if you are really picky about warranty then take Evga. They have a lifetime warranty if I am not mistakened.

Graphics cards are almost always the same in the end it’s a question of looks, warranty and software/hardware provided. They are normally so similar that even the stupid box design is sometimes a factor in reviews.

Evga do have a nice program were you can change during a year the graphics card you bought for a better one, you only pay the price difference and the posting costs.

i wouldnt class xfx with the best, the best imo, are bfg,leadtek and gainward. and the lifetime warranty you talk of is bfgs specialty.

I wouldnt class XFX with the best either, in fact i would go as far as to say that XFX are rubbish, but thats just my opinion of course

yeh XFX are extremely tacky, they just rope you in because they have the most X's XFX XXX XTREME XXX. BFG are they same, bfg cards havnt been very good for the last 6 months, i'd personally wait for the EVGA's that or leadtek or gainward.

oh yeh the highest clocked cards atm are EVGA superclocks, but a lot of reviews for the price leadtek and asus have good oc potential.

I'd rather have a purpose built job - the one previewed on the inq looked the business - covers ram / power regulators / chip the lot. Because of course you're going to want to overclock it aren't ya? Bit slow otherwise lol

Yeah definately, just wondering thats all, they fit on pretty much everything else, i wonder if they kept the hole spacing the same? I have a tyee on my x1900 and it looks pretty smart, but i reckon the maze4 had the edge in terms of absolute cooling.

TBH I've only ever bought XFX cards for the black PCB(motherboard's black, soundcard's black, CPU cooler's black, RAM's black, why have a green graphics card?). Had to return one once and it was fine, albeit taking two weeks.

Not owned an ASUS card, but they seem to have pretty much the same bundle and warranty. In the case of a £500 card I'd be looking for warranty mainly. Try and find a lifetime warranty, preferably one that swaps the card before you send it.

You'll be looking at £60-£70 (my guess) for the first full cover blocks, Danger Den have made the full cover block already and it comes with the BFG card so I don't see it taking too long before the block is available to joe public.

The Maze 4 might fit but until someone gets an 8800 series card and tries we wont know, although for the 8800 I would probably go for the full cover block, the chips seem to have a heat spreader and Maze 4's have that ridge on them so I don't know if it would be an effective cooler for the card.
