PSU help please

i was hoing to get some feed back on PSU's as i'm in the process of replacing my old psu.
I'm looking at a PSU that is 500 watt or over.

i have been looking around the web at reviews and have had a couple of recomendations from friends but still not clear on what would be a good choise.

i have been looking at the seasonic S12 as it has had some fantastic revews.

or M12 as i like the idea of the modular design and as the S12 had some fantastic reviews i thought it would be a good PSU.

please could i get some feed back on good PSU's that may be good for me please.

Well with PSU it really bores down to, the more you spend the better performance/ stability you are going to get..(relative to wattage of corse)

I have the Hyper X 550w PSU << It was relatively cheap for the price, is modular and is bright blue, some people might say its tacky but its acctually a pretty sound PSU

I almost bought the m12, but i was put off by a review that said that the 60mm fan doesnt turn itself off once it is on and that would have irritated me, that aside, it was perfect. Went for Enermax in the end and im glad i did because it is fantastic

My 530W Tagan TG-U15 is practically silent (although it may be I just can't here over my case fans and graphics card ). It's a very nice PSU and it's modular, although the cables could do with being a touch thinner.

i have the 580 hiper, very silent, modular, pretty and never had a problem with it.

Hiper here too, I have the 580W TypeR, it's loverly and black, silent and the fact it's modular has made the internals of my case very tidy.

Hipers are cheap and cheerful and have ZERO headroom as the 12V rails are weak.
Tagan PSUs (except for the the Topower OEMS) are poor aswell.

The Corsairs, Enermax, Seasonics, GXS's are what you should be aiming for.

I would go for the S12 Seasonic - I've got one and its pretty much perfect. Cables organised sensibly, its quiet, efficient and the voltages are solid across the load range.

Modular I'd be tempted by the Antec NeoHE if you don't need the full 500/600w, otherwise the M12 would be a good buy (NeoHE made by Seasonic for Antec btw)

Koolpc - you used to recommend Seasonic - why the change?

Zalman's BTW are rebranded FSP/Fortron psus. Check out reviews on silentpcreview.com - the ZM460-APS is identical to the FSP Green psu.


g0at, my vote is for a Seasonic.

I've also used Enermax, FSP, HEC and SilverPower and all of those IMO are good.

Strange way of thinking tbh.
Ultras 'look' good aswell but that just hides the junk inside them.

If you want a good PSU that will withstand heavy loads then leave the Hiper alone.
If you want the bling and nothing else then buy the Hiper. At least if you overload it and blow some expensive parts you can still open the case and look at it.

Seasonics are good, also think about enermax PSUs. The noisetakers are good and the libertys are incredible.
