Basically my NV8 is giving me constant cold boot issues. TO RMA it I'd have to be without a PC for 2 weeks which I can't do. I was looking at an asus P5B/E6600/geil 6400 ram. Now I've been told to ditch the E6600 and get an E6300. Are the pretty much guaranteed to OC? Are they good? Should I take that option? I can only afford 1gb of ram atm (until after xmas) as it's expensive stuff.
Nothing is guarenteed to overclock, however neither the 6300 or 6600 *need* to be overclocked.
Ditch the E6600, go for the E6300 and buy some the decent Geil stuff, and it pains me to say this, from OcUK. Its only £165 from there and the money that you save from switching to the E6300 should easily cover you for 2GB of RAM. The minimum prce for a combo with the E6600 is something around £400 with one gig of RAM, or £400 for the E6300 and 2 Gig's of RAM, I know which I'd go for.
As kalniel said, nothing is guranteed when it comes to overclocking but I would be surprised if you didn't hit something near 3Ghz with the E6300.
I'd be happy with 2.5ghz :D
Is the DS3 a good board? Are there any known issues with it?

There have been a lot of issues with memory and the DS3 boards. However, with the recent release of the AB9 Pro 1.5 BIOS, all the memory issues that have been present with the board have vanished. Not that I'm biased or anything. :P

Got a rather old GA-8KNXP in my PC at work, which was my old board at home. I don't particularly like Gigabyte, but it's still going strong, and if I'm honest, it's probably the best motherboard I've had. Apart from an almost equally good Epox, I'm mainly an ASUS man, but some of their recent A64 products have been dire (no experience of Intel-based boards)... Might have to investigate the ABIT when I move to C2D/Q, but otherwise, I've been looking very favourably towards the Gigabyte DS4.Quote:

Have an Asus P5B and although a little more expensive than the Gigabyte I must say that I have had no real problems. The overclocking options are good and the board is well laid out with everything one needs.
