    Plextor PX-760SA

This drive is on back order in the US (probably never sold here), and I wondered if the fact that it is "SATA" means that the power inlet is any different than the ordinary 4-pin inlet?

And, just out of curiosity, how much power does a drive like this draw?

I have scoured the Internet, but can't find any info on power and no picture of the back of the device.

    Grateful for info.

I dont know if it has a 'SATA' power connector, or a Molex, or both, but power draw wise there is no reason it should be any different to any other optical drive?????
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

Excuuuuuuse meeee, for not looking at the Belgian page :-) Seriously, I checked the US site, which does not have the SA, and then on the UK site, which has the same page as you pointed me to. Now, if you could only tell me what I do to actually *see* the back of the drive on that picture, I would be perfectly happy.

TBH I'd go for a cheaper driver from another manu - I'm not finding plextor stuff to be any better of late (and we buy them in here for work too - lots of returns lately) and my own drive at home is playing up now

I agree with dangel, plextor's stuff just looks overpriced nowadays, and to be honest, you cant really go wrong with NEC.

I liked the fact that they have/will have a SATA version (because of the cables in this case, as I am not sure the speed is affected). But I will look into NEC and Liteon (never heard of Liteon).

SATA makes no odds to speed but I agree on the cable issue. I did see a cheap driver with SATA the other day... can't remember which one.

    EDIT: try http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...s=34&OrderBy=1

70quid for plextor, 22 odd for Liteon..

The closest I can get to NEC DVDs is

Another vote for NEC. Great drives, I'm still using the ND-3500A I bought about 3yrs ago.

Plextor are definitely loosing their edge now. They used to have the best CD burners at one point with excellent read and write quality.

The Pioneer 111D is supposed to be a good drive. If I was in the market for a new drive I'd probably go for the NEC ND-7170A.

Great. But where can you find technical descriptions of and comparisons between the various NEC drives?

www.google.com - its brilliant, you just type in what you are looking for and it throws up a list of possibilities

Smart Alec! I have been on the Internet for the last two months looking for stuff for my computer, and yesterday, looking for NEC. I went to several NEC sites, could not find anything else than the *support* site I mentioned earlier, and so on.

But don't think I sit on my hands just because I ask for help -- I continuously look for stuff (incl. NEC), but unfortunately, periodically, I have to work, and can then not spend time looking for that elusive NEC site that must be out there somewhere, where the company actually presents their optical drive products.

So, is someone actually knows this NEC site, please let me know (no, I am not asking that you look for me, just if you already know it).

    Regards and thanks,

    Hans L
