    Overheating ?

    I have a shuttle case 'Xpc' SN85G4 V3
    FN 85 Motherboard
    Athlon 3400 +
    Socket 754

Current problem. When gaming the fan seems to kick into gear and stay on for long periods of time. Most of the time the computer just locks and I have to reboot. BUT if I remove the shuttle case cover it seems to run fine even if the fan does stay on quite a lot. Is there some kind of temperature limit that I can adjust and where or are there any other reasons for it.

    Thanks
    Eddie

Either that or speedfan. Tried re-seating the CPU heatsink & applying new thermal paste. Thermal cut-off is set in the BIOS. I've had these overheat as we have a couple at work where the rear extractor has gone, seen the cpu temp reach the high 90's

I have one at work with a feeble FX5200 card in it that is quite stable. Someone here really liked it and bought one for home with a 9800pro graphics card, and needed to get an upgraded PSU to get the machine stable.

CPU goes up to 80 degrees according to the bios. The fan starts to kick in and run at 3840 rpm from 1000 rpm. There is no fan on top of the cpu. There are heat pipes that lead up to an exctraction fan at the back of the shuttle case. can these pipes be taken away or bypassed and a cpu fan fitted.
One thing though it never used to be like this. Help

Take off the fan and blow all he dust out of the heatsink and then see how it goes...

    Hi mate

Ive got exactly the same machine and I had a problem, see this thread

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=85555

Problem was solved because smart fan was not enough to make the computer run stable. It caused XP to freeze. You need to change the bios and set the fan to speed up at either 50 or 55 degrees. This keeps a good airflow running through the manchine.

Basically these machines like to run taosty. I bought a mesh side window cover for mine. I thought my x800 was going to blow up otherwise.
