Speakers <£50

Ok, so I have some £10 2.1 CA speakers from Scan, they are ok, but well, obviously the aren't exactly very good.

I'm fed up with trying to watch a film from my bed and having to have the volume at max and still not get all the audio well.

I'm after a decent 5.1 system, ideally costing less than £50 inc vat, but I could stretch if worth it. Flicking around on Scan there appear to be some decent ones but PC speakers isn't one of my strong points. I spotted these ones, anybody know how good they are?

I like to have decent volume and clean and clear audio in my music/films/games (at the moment I really don't with these CAs).

While I dislike Creative soundcards for their software, they do make good value speakers.

7.1 is a bit much really. I'm at uni, in halls and 5.1 will be 'interesting' enough to mount the rear ones without damaging the walls as it is without trying to work out how to mount the extras from the 7.1 set.

With those 5.1 creatives they have a smaller wattage than my current CA ones

I have the same as you selected in your first post and find then excellent. For the price a doubt you can do better. Get a set and you'll be impressed.

The image on Scan makes them look quite snazzy, how big are they, and how'd they look in person?

What's the controler thing like? I have a 4.1 Creative system at home and the control is really anoying, but the speakers are very good.

I have those in the living room. They do the job nicely.

Speakers look good and the controller is much easier to use than my previous 4.1. It has a volume and a bass level plus a headphone jack.

Judging by the price of your current speakers they are almost guaranteed to be rated in PMPO Peak Max Power Output whereas speakers from a respected brand like creative WILL be rated in RMS which will be a lot less but it is the true value if i remember rightly (because i cant remember what the letters stand for (wiki it)) it is the average of all recorded wattages from different scenarios.

Yeah, I was just gancing over the numbers. It's the same with power supplies, cheap ones show the MAX power out, expensive ones show the general one, and the max.

I certainly like the P5800's they look nice, and I found an image of the controller and it seems like a decent one...hmmm may be investing in that soon...

Thats the same system i have, brilliant quality and lots of bass (not that i even use it most of the time).

Btw just for reference the control has one dial for volume and one dial for bass and a headphone jack on the end. Also there is a jack for Aux audio in (standard headsphone connector) that it will play over the center speaker not interrupting whatever else you have playing.
