    New PC

This is what I've just ordered from Scan (Case is an Antec Sonata II from eBuyer). Do you think I will be disappointed with this set-up? I'm hoping this will keep me fairly up to date with most new games for close to a couple of years.

Can anyone seen any problems with what I've bought?

The only thing i'd have thought is, for an extra 50 quid or something you could have got an 8800GTS and have dx10 but I guess it's not a necessity.

Yeah that's the same thing I was thinking, for about £25 extra (from dabs) you could get a 8800gts which is faster than the 1950xtx and is also dx10.

The sonata II is a good case, imo it just looks awesome, but inside is a bit small. Not a big problem but it gets annoying if you're constantly fiddling around with your system.

Apart from that the only problem I can see is that order won't be heading for my house.

i would switch the memory all the reviews seem to point to under performance in conroe systems for the corsair ddr2

also the 880gts will give you alot more otpions in the future games with its dx10 support

He said he's ordered it now so it's too late to tell him to switch memory I wish i'd have heard that corsair ddr2 under performs in conroe systems though! (considering I have the same)

    does it???

I thought my ram was doing pretty well...

and agree about the card choice, at this point of time i think he would have been better off with the dx10 card...

agree on the card, the 8800gts can be bought for around £300-£320 if you shop around. You can get a palit version for £319 from here www.yoyotech.co.uk

edit: oh well, looks like they've put the price up since this morning £319 -> £366! They were also selling the palit version of the gtx for £419 but thats gone up too.....

To be honest whether you will be dissapointed or not largely depends on what your used to, and your expectations, its very much a subjective question, what you have bought is a pretty sweet system, and it doesnt really matter what you buy, a month down the line something bigger and better is out, i wish id waited before buying my processor, i bought it about 6 months before i finished my system (ran out of money, doh, lol) so now i have an FX-55 where id like a Intel Pentium Extreme X6800 (its around the same price as the FX-55 was when i bought it, having said that the 55 is still a decent processor, and still retails for £400 on scan). Same goes for the GFX cards, i have 2 x 7900GTX's that i bought when they first came out, which are now practically obsolete, lol. Although they still run Solitaire sweet (which is about as much gaming as my system gets since it got reclassified to my work PC), lol.
