    Which PSU and case ?

    Hi chaps,

    Just ordered some upgrade stuff:

    8800GTX
    RAM
    ASUS P5B mobo

What I need to know is what size / brand of PSU you would recommend. I did a PSU calculator check and it came in @ 653W so I guess I'm looking at 700W or higher.

Also, I have a huge Thermaltake case but not sure whether to just give it to the kids with the present contents in and buy a new case or to keep using it.

Finally, again I have a 21" Samsung synchmaster CRT. Should I replace it and if so what with ? (keep it cheap for now, I've just spent a bleedin fortune !)

Cheers for any advice in advance,

    Andy

How about an Antec P180 or Akasa Mirage for the case and Seasonic M12-700 for the PSU?

Tagan 900w if theres any chance of a second 8800, otherwise I'd be rather tempted by the M/S-12 700 as suggested by EtheAv8r

Akasa Mirage here - love mine.

Think a new case would set things off nicely. Regarding a PSU; think just get a good brand and the biggest size possible you can afford - you don't know what you might buy next!

Thanks guys, it's a fair point in that I may eventually add another 8800 (once the price has come down a lot !). So, let's assume we're gonna put 2 of 'em in, would the 850W be ok or should I be looking at 900 or even higher ?

I think I may as well go with a new case as I can then just pass on the old machine to the kids without any hassles.
My only concern was reading about the length of the 8800 and making sure it'll fit in whatever case I get.

    Here's a pic of my old case (I think it's called a Thermaltake Xaser 9) :

apparently I'm not allowed to post a pic yet until I have posted 5 posts.

IMHO for those contemplating dual G80 stups in future I think the better route is two quality smaller PSUs (e.g 500/400 or 600/400 or 700/400) and dedicate one PSU to GPUs and the other to the core system??

So the case will need to be able to take two PSUs - which the Antec P190 does - complete with interconnect wiring to fire them up as one.... and I guess we will see more of this? A pair of Seasonics would do nicely... or FSB?

Definitley not. Tagans have a hisstory of weak 12V Rails so why risk it?

    OR!!!

    This PSU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=431486

Its an excellent PSU and give a little headroom.

as a final note be very careful with the Antec P180. The PSU is located at the bottom of the case and some PSUs dont have long enough leads to reach everywhere.
Also, the new Antec stackers are due out so my advice would be to wait and take a look at those first.
