    DVD Re-writer

My current one is really really loud so I would like a new one. Could anyone reccommend a good one that isn't TOO loud and is black?

Since this one is on quietpc i assume it would be quiet but I don't know how it would perform, since I don't really have a clue about dvd drives.

Also, can you get black fronted floppy drives? This beige one doesn't really work with my black akasa mirage

    Cheers,
    Chris.

You can get black fascia floppy drives... Mitsumi even do their combo card reader n floppy drive in black (available from Scan if you are interested).

As for black DVD writers... Think the older 16x Liteon's are ok (my LG is fairly noisy) and I seem to recall hearing that samsungs / asus are quiet in general...

My NEC drive was silent, although it died suddenly only a few days ago. Placed an order for a lite-on to replace it, i was going to get a plextor but couldnt justify double the price.

I was actually very impressed with the NEC though burned every disc i threw at it, quiet even at full speed and seemed very well built had a quality feel.

I have another sony though pretty, much the opposite to the NEC the only good thig about it is that it cost me £15. I'd stay away from them though.

A vote for the NEC burners. The new ones are quiet and work great...and cheap.

My plextor is very quiet. But my previous NEC is also very good.

NEC are good, cheap, quiet, and come in black.

Already have a card reader, and my digicam has xd picture card which the floppy/card reader combo on scan doesn't have, so i'll just get this.

DVD drive will be that one I gave the link to before (the NEC one on scan).

    Cheers for the advice lads

I bought the Samsung on QuietPC. It's nice because it's SATA. It's probably the loudest thing in my PC, but I don't think there's such a thing as quiet optical drive.
