A64 3000+ to Opteron 165 CCB1E0606 worth it?

Hi guys,
I currently have an AMD64 3000+ running overclocked from 1.8Ghz to 2.5Ghz. I have come upon the opportunity to buy an Opteron CCB1E0606 (a very good stepping) for around £130. I am only looking at this instead of conroe because to go to conroe I would need a new mobo and ram and would end up costing me £400. Do you think it's worth it, or should I just leave it untill conroe's cheaper/I can afford it. I use my PC a lot for games btw, and my spec is below:

A64 3000+ @ 2.5Ghz
A8R-MVP Asus 939 Motherboard
2Gb Geil Value PC3200
ATi X1900xt 512Mb
Creative X-Fi
250Gb IDE drive

If your motherboard is capable of a high FSB, do it.

I went from my 3200+ to Opteron 165 'cos of the good write ups about 165 overclocking.
Still haven't got around to overclocking, so can't confirm from own experience, apart from that all games run better with it at stock speed - apart from Rome total war which keeps on getting problems with core affinity, making it twitch like crazy (easy to fix though).

With a good setup like yours, no point in upgrading until lower price DX10 cards come out, when hopefully E6600 and upwards conroes with be cheaper.

For now, at that price, I say, "go get one!"

Yeah dual core will keep your PC going for a while longer. If you're lucky you might be able to pull a couple of extra hundred mhz above the single core too.

Bah, the guy changed his mind, wouldn't sell it separate of the motherboard. I'm hoping no-one buys it and then he'll list them separately. I agree, seems a bit silly upgrading to Conroe, waiting will only decrease the price.

Yeah in the same boat here, conroe is just too pricey an upgrade when all the parts are considered. Just bought a 170 to tie me over for another year or until the whole cost of the upgrade becomes cheaper.
