Hard drive SMART health on 57%

Hi,

I just did a SMART test and it came out with this:

As you can see the reallocated sectors bit is not too good.

I then checked my brothers drive which is roughly 3 years old and his drive health is still over 90%.

The picture of the results above is of my main system drive, it's around 1 year old and has gone through normal use.

Would this low health on the drive be causing slight sound lag when loading images on a web page, and sometimes when loading games?

Personally I wouldn't take the chance. 200gig drives are cheap now, just buy a new one and ghost it over.

I'm going for a 320gb if I'm getting a new one :D

Well, I'm going to look into it a little more, and will probably get a 320GB hard drive, this drive should not be on 57%... my m8s 4 year old drive is still on 98%!

some times newer drives can fail quicker than older ones. i have 2 8.4 gig fujtsus at home witch are both still scoring very high.but yeah replace it very soon as it looks like it wouldn't have long left if it is scoring like that

Seek time is a bit high, I have run it multiple times and each time it's given roughly 15ms. Also, as you can see it drops alot :(

Surely the 57% health coupled with the fact that the drive has a seek time of 15ms when it should be about 9ms will be making my PC slower?

I'd imagine so mate, is there any warranty left on the old girl or is it time for her to be put to rest?

I just ran that HD Tune on my hard drive, my C: reported an access time of 19ms! :( Something seriously wrong there I think?

Run a SMART analysis on it mike.

Yeah, there's warranty left on it, will Maxtor send me a new one and then I send them this one? I don't want to be without a computer at all!

Look on the maxtor webpage mate, I know western digital do a swap out whereby you give them CC details and they will give you a new drive. Assumably if you don't send the old one back they debit your card for whatever amount it is.

I checked that out and you're right, they do do that credit card thing & send me a drive first before I have to send the faulty one out.

I'll test my hard drive in another computer before I go sending it back though, my main problems (speed) might just be the motherboard and not the hard drive failing.

for the seek time it might be worth seeing what other people tend to get for that type of drive as the manufacturer probably use a very optmistic way of calculating it, just like monitor response time

Could someone possibly do a HDTune test on a SATA 150 PC running practically nothing (so nothing interferes) with a Seagate please?
