    Old Case and PSU

    Hi

I have an old PC I built that needs updating. Its an Athlon 1400 on a mother board that wont take a faster CPU so that's junk. The case however is a nice big LIAN LI one and the PSU is an Enermax EG365P-VE (the old type without SATA connectors) and the DVD drive is OK too.
The PC will mainly be used for running Linux with two copies of a hardware emulator so no need for fancy graphics but a dual core CPU of some type would be good along with several GB of RAM.
Are there any mobo and CPU combinations that will breath life back into this old warhorse, perhaps something that could take an AMD 3800 x2 or even an Intel 6300 dual core without having to buy a new PSU.
I intend to buy a complete new PC in the new year so really don't want to blow too much on this one but want to make it useful.

    Thanks

    Pat

Dont forget you will need new ram as well, that isnt cheap at the moment. Unless you find a socket 939 motherboard and use your existing ddr ram. You could also keep your existing ddr ram if you went the Asrock route, i beleive they have a board that uses ddr or ddr2

Thanks. I'll take a look at the socket 939 Asrock boards.
