    USB thumb drive not working?

My sister has a usb thumb drive that works at school but not at home. The silly thing is, my dads works in the same usb ports that hers won't work in, can anyone think of a reason why?

    Cheers.

    USB 1.1/2.0 clash?

Start with new motherboard drivers. Obvious suggestion I know, but it works more often than not.

Check if anything else if pluggwed into the same USB host controller...

It might have too low power coming out of the connection to power the flash drive.

But then why should my dads work in the exact same port? I'll tell her to update the mobo drivers tomorrow and see where that gets us

Different manufacturers/models will use different power requirements and your sister's may just be more power hungry than your dad's.

I had a weird problem on a Compaq pc with a flash drive - if the flash wasn't either drive d or e it wasn't seen, maybe worth checking.

Also - If you have a mapped network drive or virtual device - The USB Pen may be using that drive letter.
Not terribly intelligent of XP to assign it the same drive letter as an already mapped drive - But we have seen that a few times in work.

Head to Disk Management once the pen's in.
See if it appears in there - If so, change drive letter.
