that cpu wont fit in that motherboard. you either need a socket 939 motherboard or a socket 775 cpu.

the psu link is a motherboard.

    Is £500 the absolute max?

If not, and you could spend an extra 100-150, you could easily be in C2D land...

Ah fair enough. I've seen in your other thread someone managed to get C2D into your price range, would be better than going for an AM2 Athlon in all honesty (and I'm an AMD fanboy)

For a £500 system, I'd still go with an AMD setup rather than a C2D, you'd have to cheap out on the ram and motherboard to get an e6300 setup and it wouldnt overclock too well then.
The problem your current setup has is memory, 1gig of pc2700 probably wont work on its own, and theres no stock of it. DDR1 is getting hard to get hold of, and DDR2 isnt cheap - even so, going for an AM2 system is the better option because its more easily available. Here's what I would put together, keeping your preference of case, except I forgot the soundcard, oops:

    Abit KN9, NF4 Ultra, S AM2, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=451486 £56.98 - It's not SLI but it's a good chipset and looks like it could overclock well, saves a lot of money.

Microsoft Wired Keyboard 500 1.0 PS/2 Compact, Internet Keys, MCE Keys, Spill Resistant
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=478304 £8.17

    330W Tagan TG330-U01 Whisper aPFC quiet 20db 3 Years Warranty ATX/BTX
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=138556 £32.30 - A fair bit cheaper, but still a good brand and with enough wattage for this system, although its not modular.

    Microsoft Explorer4 Silver/Black Optical Mouse OEM (N48-00022)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=52517 £14.68 - a slightly nicer mouse

NEC ND-5170A-0B Black x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD-Writer OEM UK
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=468668 £20.46 - going for a regular DVD drive is a waste of money these days

    512MB Elixir, DDR2 PC5300 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=352323 £65.78 - a pair of these for dual channel, which the AM2/939 need.
1GB isn't great though these days, if you can stretch your budget a fair bit further, there's a 2gb dual channel kit for ~135

NZXT Apollo Black Midi Tower Case with Side Window w/o PSU
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=469180 £52.63 - If you want a really cheap option, there's a Chenbro spider case for around £30, good if you like green

    256MB Palit 7600GT Sonic, PCI-E(x16), Mem 1500MHz, GPU 575MHz, 12Pipes, D-Sub/Dual Link DVI/HDTV SLI
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=457256 £89.02

    320 Gb Seagate ST3320620AS Barracuda 7200.10, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.5 ms, NCQ
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=397203 £67.82 - It's faster, if you want to save a few quid though, wait til the Seagate 7200.10 250GB comes back into stock, that's just as fast.

    AMD AM2 Athlon 64 3500 Orleans Core, 2.2GHz, 512KB Cache, Retail
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=401097 £60.85 - A slightly nicer processor

    TOTAL £483.75

I thought I was doing so well too, until I remembered I forgot the soundcard But this is all just on scan, and there are a few today only things that would save you around £10 and you could get the 250GB 7200.10 instead of the 320gb 7200.10, it's best to stick with these because the perpendicular recording makes them faster. (and the warranty, and the reliability, can you tell I like seagate over other brands?)

Still think that the C2D system I specced up in the other thread you opened about this same topic would be the best for you. That way you have all the major components that are the worst ones to upgrade (Modo, cpu and memory) ready to go and you can just upgrade the HDD any time you like.

For all the others thats what I posted.

[rant]To be honest I wish people would look, there are around 3 or 4 threads on the first page of Hardstuff that are asking people for advice on PC's in the same budget area, even if its not your thread keep an eye on it so you can get an idea, that way it's not just a sea of people asking the same question[/rant]

I do apologise for that little outburst in advance.
