GeForce 8800 in an Antec P180

Has anyone with an Antec P180 installed an 8800 GPU in it yet?

Will it fit, are there any issues? I have been set on P180 for my next build, but they are a bit of a squeeze, and the 8800 is a BIG card??

I may have to rethink the case - (P190 or Akasa Eclipse/Mirage) - for my New Year build?

I remember reading a post by someone on these forums who used both. From what I remember it fits but you might have a problem with the hard drive cage beside where the card goes.

I have no idea, but I know the GTS is a shorter card and doesn't have much problem. The GTX is much longer though and can get tricky to fit in some cases.

But a few people I have read about having trouble, just said it was the bottom hard drive cage that got in the way, and they just used a pair of pliers to bend the metal of the hard drive cage so the card fit. They obviously mustn't have needed the extra space for extra hard drive cages.

Some cases even allow you to just remove the entire hard drive cage.

I have been stressing about this too recently, but I decided to go for the GTS instead because I just can't really afford the GTX. So I'm hoping the shorter length will give me no trouble fitting it in any case. If I do have trouble, I'll just do the bending of the hard drive cage trick.

I only plan two hard drives - so I may be able to dispense with the lower drive cage?

yeah with the p180 the top hard drive cage comes out completely leaving with room for 3/4 hard disks in the cage at the bottom in the psu section. With that out of the way you should be able to fit any gfx card in. my x1950xtx fits nicely with oodles of room

you'll probably want to get some power cable extenders with the p180 though, depending on your mobo/psu.

It would be the upper drive cage that would cause you problems in the P180, and removing this would probably be your best option if you only plan on 2 hard drives.

Thanks guys.... I will stick with the P180 then (but am checking out the Antec P190 & 900).... as there is still plenty of time between now and New Year to make my final choice....

I have one of these P180s and I plead with you to reconsider your purchase decision. It just gets soo cramped with high end graphics cards that the whole case becomes hotter and so more fans are needed. I would start looking at a case which has more space for the motherboard.
I am not saying that you won't be able to fit the 8800 in there but it will be very cramped, also I remember reading someone who had managed to fit a 7800GX2 in to their P180 and since they are the same size it should be no problem.
