Xbox360 - Lay down or stand up?

    hi guys,

i've recently got myself an xbox 360 and i absolutly love it, the only problem i have is that im quite tight on space in my living room.

At the moment its stood up next to my TV but im scared that im gonna stumble in drunk one night and knock it over. The alternative is to lay it on its side next to my DVD player actually on my TV stand.

Which position is best for cooling, stood up or laying down? I know that my netgear router gets hotter by lying down than standing up, is this the same with the xbox?

Personally I have mine vertical due to space constraints. I'd have thougth there would be little difference in cooling capability between the two positions. I'd guess vertical would provide a minor increase to the cooling capacity, but nothing that would make much difference.

If I was in your situation, I'd have it on its side but with noting sat on top of it. I hope that helps.

I'd love to have mine standing up as it looks better but I don't bother cause every time you eject a disc, the disc just falls out! Plus how're you meant to keep the disk in place while you push the tray back in?

'Push' the tray back in? Try pressing the 'eject' button when the tray is out.

That's certainly not the case with my 360 (or PS2 for that matter) The DVD drive has little bits that stick out to keep the disc in the upright position and stops it from falling out. I'm sure your drive will, take a closer look

I'd say vertically standing should run slightly cooler, cos there won't any other devices next to it.

Laying it down horizontally shouldnt cause u any probs though, as they've designed it to work in both orientations. Usually the little rubber feet under the device allow enough air to circulate underneath (as long as its on a flat surface). If u do lay it down horizontally though, u should avoid piling another device on top of it (or underneath it). This can often cause failure in equipment as both devices are heating each other up (my dad broke his Sky box and home cinema amp doing this!). Also make sure the top, and back are unobstructed too.
