    Vertical installation of SATA HDD

I am about to install my Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250620AS SATA. I can install it either horizontally or vertically. The Seagate website shows only (as far as I can see) horizontal installation and says nothing (as far as I can find) about vertical installation.

Does anyone know if this drive can be installed vertically, and is there any advantace/disadvantage to either installation direction?

AFAIK mount it watever you want, I had duct taped a HD to my case once and it works. The only i havent try is hanging it mid-air.

As Hans V says you can install either horizontally or vertically, so long as you don't move it while it's powered up all should be fine

Install it at any angle, as long as it is secure. If you look there should be screw-holes both on the sides and on the back. In some cases (I've seen Dells) the drive can be installed vertically.

And it is perfectly safe to install your drive horizontally, and then put your case flat so the HD end up vertical.

    Thanks, Fabula.

On a lighter note: I wonder if one could get the HDD to double as a gyro compass?
