Ok guys I need some help overclocking my Opty 165 on my Asus A8N-E mobo. I could really do with advice on how to get it to a higher clock. I am currently sitting at 2.47Ghz.

what speed does your memory max out at do you need to drop the divider
and whats that board like as an overclocker never really seen that model
although with your memory at ddr354 you should still have a bit of headway to go before it stumbles on the memory although on that big a divider you are gonna lose a lot of memory bandwidth
To be honest I do not really know how to work out the speeds I require in the bios for my memory and pci lock.

Loosen the memory to 3-3-3-8 for now(tighten it up once you've found the board/CPU max). Then over volt any bits of the board the BIOS allows. There should be options to add +0.1v to them. Make sure you dont add anymore to the CPU, it has enough for now.
Now drop the HT link to 3x ASUS tends to label this one oddly K8 to NB link I think.
Then try increasing the FSB again and see what happens.
Ok how much should I over volt the memory? FSB is HTT right? Also what should I set my Mhz lock to it starts at 100Mhz and goes up from there?
Main Rig: i2600k@4.3Ghz/ASUS P8P67 PRO/MSi GTX580/16GB Mushkin/HAF X/Noctua NH-D14
memory is usually fine about 2.8v. Rarely need more than that. HTT is the FSBx5,or whatever you set it too, it should com in under a 1000 usually.
mhz lock for what? For PCI-e 100 is what you want. For memory, you want the final speed after the divider to be around 200mhz.
ok well my HTT is set to 275 right now so how is that the FSB x5? PCI e lock is 33.33mhz i think. The other lock can be set to 100,120 133 etc.

Ok i think I understand what you mean now. My mobo has a HT setting and a HTT setting. My HT is x3 and my HTT is currently 275. Here are the settings I can change as listed in my BIOS.
Jumperfree Config
CPU Frequency 200-400
PCI Express Clock 100-200Mhz
DDR Voltage 2.6v-3v
CPU multiplier x4-x20
CPU Voltage 0.8v-1.5v
DRAM Config
Max Memclock DDR200-DDR600
RAS,CAS settings etc
Hyper Transport Frequency 1x-5x
So from that list what do I need to change to get myself up to 3Ghz say?
Main Rig: i2600k@4.3Ghz/ASUS P8P67 PRO/MSi GTX580/16GB Mushkin/HAF X/Noctua NH-D14
3ghz is ambitious.
For now try for 2.7 a common opteron overclock.
CPU Frequency 300
PCI Express Clock 100Mhz
DDR Voltage 2.8
CPU multiplier leave as it is, but make sure it's set to manual or the motherboard will drop it. 9x is the default, increasing will probably just fail when you reboot.
CPU Voltage 1.4, if it wont boot/pass prime increase it a bit more.
DRAM Config: leave auto for now
Max Memclock DDR300
RAS,CAS settings etc: again leave auto, the motherboard will loosen them more then needed, but once you've found the max of the CPU you can tighten them maually.
Hyper Transport Frequency 3x
I cannot set my mem to 300 its either 266 or 333.

How do I know if its BH-5?
Main Rig: i2600k@4.3Ghz/ASUS P8P67 PRO/MSi GTX580/16GB Mushkin/HAF X/Noctua NH-D14
Set the mem to 333 for now then. Drop it to 266 if you have problems. EDIT: thinking about it, do it the other way around start with 266 then move up once the max chip-speed is found.
Find the max of the chip first you can worry about the mem's max later. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...ad.php?t=94471 will give you the basics on BH-5.

So is that all I need to do for now then just keep playing with my HTT whilst my mem is set nice and low?

Pretty much, you need to find the max for the CPU and then balance the rest of the speeds/timings around that.
