Believe me, it ain't working. And I see now what others have said, namely that the 4-pole power connector, which attaches to the top of hte motherboard, is a little short.

If I find a piece of aluminum in the basement, I will make a new back panel tomorrow, and that way, I will get the power supply the way I want it.

So, that's tomorrows work, and then the two graphics cards go in, and then, I think I have finished the hardware installations.

As I promised, I will take some photos tomorrow.

If I had spent all that money on a case and the psu wouldnt fit in, I would be sending it back and getting a different one, sounds like its been made wrong.

Sending it back? At this point?

Am a building or what? The thing is that it does fit, but not the way I would have wanted it. So, as I found a perfect piece of aluminum in the basement, and I have a metal saw and a drill, I will simply make my own back panel. Then, I'll get the fan in the right direction, the 4-pole power connector cable will reach better, and I there will be no delay of this project.

Third pic (don't know why it is sideways -- original is not).

Back of puter. Note my brace, inserted because there is no tab at the top (as there is at center bottom), so the power supply was not entirely stable mechanically). Not beautiful, but it's in he back.

I must be more fussy than you.

Can you just confirm something for me.....

If you slide the PSU out of the back of the case and while it is hanging out of the back, screw the plate to the psu...what is it that doesnt line up? Will the holes on the psu not match to the holes in the plate, even out of the case?

edit: looks like you managed it.

If you're any good at woodwork (I'm not) then why don't you make one of these to improve airflow over the hard disks?

    Funny!!!!!

But, as funny as it is, it gave me an idea. The heck with the PSU.

Does anyone have a rat to spare?

I thought you were good at metalwork from the above post about looking for an aluminium sheet and thought you would be equally good at woodwork

That's the only thing I don't like about that case - the HD mounting.

I was considering a wood stove instead of the PSU, but I then found the rat wheel, and it looked so well designed.

My new back panel is finished. Crocked but functional. Will post photo (I know you are waiting with bated breaths). But first, the graphics cards!

Can I sneak in a questions here: No signal cable came with my optical drive ND-4570. Can I use the HDD cable (since I have SATA) and connect the blue connector to the Primary IDE connector on the mobo, and the first or second (which one?) of the two connectors at the other end to the DVD drive (final is black, and the one a little in on the cable is grey)?

I have finished installing the hardware. I have installed my own back panel for the PSU. Here are some photos:

Clunk, due to the asymmetrical placement of mounting holes in the PSU, the existing back panel fits only if the PSU is placed on either side in the case, but in either place with the fan towards the case side wall.

As you can see from the last picture of the back of the case (and I apologize for not rotating the pictures first), the screws to the left are all the way out to the left of the PSU and aligned vertically. However, the bottom right screw is set in a bit from the right side of the PSU, and the top right screw is set in a bit from the top of the PSU, and they do not line up vertically. This makes it impossible to use the existing back panel without drilling new holes and mounting the same brace that you see that I mounted at the top of the panel.

This made me decide to make my own back panel, which took a few hours and resulted in rather uneven edges, but made for a sturdier and "fittier" panel.

Let me parenthetically say that the las thing I will mount, the side fan that blows out radially through the back, is shown in one of the pictures below in the wrong directions. That was intentional -- I had just placed it in its correct place with the fan out, so that it was clear what it was.

Now, I will read all the startup and tweaking instructions, then check all the connections one more time, and finally start up, probably on Tuesday. My wife has promised me she will stand by with the fire extinguisher :-)
