    Spec Check....

Guys/Gals after about 2 months thinking about it I have got a final spec... Just wondered what everyone thought abotu my spec

Uses of the PC - Looking to setup virtual servers/clients also play a fair amount of games. Mainly Hl2/COD/Battlefield. Would obviously like to be ready for the next HL installment. Also use HD's a lot, so would like reliability for data storage.

    Items already got
    - Akasa Eclipse 62 Case
    - Tagan 2force 580W PSU
    - Samsung SyncMaster 710n 17" Moniter
    - Soundblaster Audigy ZS
    - Speakers, Keyboard, Mouse etc

Now... The spec below i altered a bit from my original plan, originally i had 2x320gb sata HD and an undecided GFX card, i then noticed that if i dropped a HD (with the intention of buying later) i could purchase a 8800 GTS almost-ish within my £1000 budget... I then started thinking about buying the 680i chipset so id have SLI "just in case", but the waiting for the price to drop will kill me! (The EVGA one does look nice though )

    - Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
    - Asus P5W DH Deluxe Wi Fi
    - Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX
    - 8800 GTS BFG
    - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM x1
    - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
    - AeroCool Cool panel 2

Whats everyone think? Should I get the 8800gts now and sacrafice £60 of budget/another HD or get a lesser card. Its better to be futureproofed for DX10 i guess!? Should i wait till the 680s are tried and tested to just after xmas?

    Any help would be appreciated

Looks good to me. You wont see any benefit at all on a 17" monitor from SLI. I would get the P5B deluxe wifi over the P5Wdh as well.

    Thanks for the info guys

Hmmm - so waiting for the 680i for SLI wouldnt be beneficial? Or is the performance of the 680i in general better then the P5b/Pw5? I guess the only reason i was waiting for the 680i was for the SLI incase i upgrade in the future, but im sure a 8800 gts would last a while

The 680I boards might turn out to be fantastic, but at the moment, they are well over twice what they are worth and quite a lot of bugs, which is understandable with them being new. One of the new 8800 cards should be enough to power some of the largest resolution monitors at the moment, so save your cash for a while until you get a bigger/high res monitor
