cool idea, thanks I might give that a try, maybe even just the tack to damp vibrations

how does the white/blu tack hold up when the temps go up? I imagine it would dry out, but maybe I am wrong?

I haven't had a problem with the mounting method and I've been using it for over a year (2 120mm fans in an Akasa Eclipse). Blu Tack does harden a bit but still didn't have a problem with the fans falling off. The White Tack stays soft.

I've just used some White Tack to attach a 140mm Yate Loon fan to the PSU chamber of the P180. The fan holes in that chamber are for a 120mm fan so I couldn't use any cable ties, just the White Tack.

I didn't have a problem with mounting my Ambers...but then I used Acousti Fanmounts. They are basicaly long rubber nails. They are meant for noise suppression (stopping the fan from making the case vibrate), but I'm not sure that my Ambers would make the case vibrate really to be honest.

They are expensive (for what they are), but I recon it's worth it as you don't have to faff around with screws and messing them up. There is no damage done to the case or the fans.

    Pictures of the mounts...

    Front of the fan...

Nice little items really, glad I bought them.

I got them from overclockers, but they are fairly hefty on shipping their, luckily I was getting some other bits at the time, ones that were only available from there.

They are scary to fit, as you have to pull them really hard to get them to pop through the case and fan to be in the right position, and you think that you are going to rip them to shreds when you are doing it...but they will be fine.

I have two Ambers in my case, both are mounted with these, also just looks so much better than having screws mounting them.

    Wow they look great!

I am going to be fitting the 120mm "golf ball" fans into an Akasa Eclipse case. Do you guys think I would be ok with the normal screws? Or should I consider getting some of these rubber fan mounts?

They are only £3.47 inc VAT at overclockers.co.uk, but I dont like the idea of paying delivery on top of that and just getting a single item thats about the size of a pack of cards If I could find them in a local PC World or something, I would just go and buy them myself, but I doubt anywhere else sells them.

As I remember, I got some rubber gromits included with my Sharkoon Golf Ball's

Don't quote me on that mind - anyway, you'd probably not need the gromits - the Sharkoons don't go fast enough to cause any (noticable) vibration. They're awesome

The quality of the these fan mounts varies - some are pretty good and others I believe make no difference at all to vibration.

Another point to remember is some of these mounts can't be used with fans that have closed corners such as the Nexus fans. The mounts aren't long enough.

The cable ties - fully adjustable

I usually fit fan screws diagonally (2nd screw is diagonally opposite the 1st), this gets the positioning between the holes better & seems to help the screws go straight in.
