Backing up documents

O wise ones please share your knowledge
I have just built my wife a new rig to do her dissertation on and would like to add some kind of automatic backup. The system has a cd-rw that will only be used for backing up files, so can have a disk in it all the time. If possible it would also do emails but that isn’t necessary.
So to summarise
1. Totally automated
2. Only needs to do files that have changed in the documents directory
3. CDRW
4. PC isn’t on all the time so will need to do when it’s not busy, ore something like that??

now its a shame you ain't got a zip/jazz drive in there cos Iomega have some software that would fit the bill perfectly - the old man swears but it.
You specify a directory for it to watch, as soon as a file changes it backs it up to the zip/jazz drive

hmm Jiff is right tbh, a Jazz/Zip drive is the best way for auto backup that i know of, doing it via a CDr drive (using a CDRW disc i would guess) would be slow and unreliable in comparison - if it is a high spec drive (plextor etc) then things improve somewhat, but i am not aware of any software that could do auto backups to a CDRW. The only solution that i can think of is to use a program called 'direct CD', i think it is made by roxio. That prog will turn your CDRW into another HDD, making backups simpler. the only prob you have now is finding some software that will auto backup to a HDD (im sure its gotta be easier to find one of those than one that will write to CDs aswell)
