    will 4x52mb work

As the title suggests I'm woundering if 4x512mb sticks, two matched pairs (different manufacrotors) will work

    s939 3000
    dfi NF4 SLI-dr

will it work and will it overclock?

The only wat to know for sure is to try it. In many cases you can mix different brands/revisions/IC types. However, it is not the best method as you may get instability or possibly not even be able to boot.

Due to the added latency and load on the memory controller, 4 DIMMs will typically not OC as well as 2. However, just like the mixing portion, the OCing portion will be a case of trial and error.

in that case would you say it is not worth upgrading ddr at the moment, and waiting until i get a new system using ddr2/3?

There a bit of a discussion 4x512MB vs 2x1GB here
    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=92131

If you need 2GB, do you have 2x512MB at the moment?
Can you try before you buy the other 2x512MB?

In 'theory' 4x512MB should work, so there a chance they will not work.
May be considered selling the 2x512MB to buy 2x1GB, unless you have money to burn get value ram, you can still overclock your CPU without overclock your memory - the general impression I get from web sites, if your play games, is faster video card before faster ram.

EDIT: Unless the 3700 939 you are getting is real cheap, it still might be more advisable to upgrade your video card instead
