    e6300 or e6400 for a mild overclock

Got myself a p5w dh deluxe and 2 gigs of G.skill cl4 6400 (F2-6400CL4S-2GBPK) but now need to chose a cpu.

Was thinking of an e6300 but as my memory most likely will do 800-900mhz, would it be better to opt for an e6400?

    Any suggestions

i'd take the 6400 1x more on the multi means you have to do less to get a better overclock

although either is good both are great overclockers you cant lose

a 975 board is probably going to top out somewhere around 400-420fsb so the higher multi the better.
If you could afford it an E6600 or up is the best on 975 but 3.6GHz is more than a mild overclock.

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750

An e6600 is out of my budget really, kinda set on a e6400 right now. Any ideas on a good cooler, was think of the scythe ninja or zalman 9500 as i want it as quiet as possible since my old rig is watercooled and whisper quiet.

Go for the cheaper E6300 imo, it will keep pace with anything for a year at which point quad core's will be in the realms of sensible, giving a nice upgrade path. You should get 3 GHz with the E6300, putting it at least on a par with the Extreme. E6400 not quite worth the extra imo.

Just ordered an e6300 off scan along with a few other essentials and blank media.
Didn't get the scythe ninja as of yet because I dont know if they have the latest rev.b and also not sure about the memory cooling. It might intefere with the CPU HS as the pics i've seen of the p5w and the ninja shows if a fan is used it looks like the first ram slot is partially covered so wouldn't provide enough clearance for the dominator thingy.

If anyone has got the scythe ninja plus from scan.co.uk please let me know what revisions you got

those bastards at city link have yet again apparently tried to attempt a delivery when i purposely took a day off and stayed in

I ****ing called them at 5:30 and the depot called the driver who said he was running late as he left the depot late and would be here by 6:30. I bet they'll try to deliver the packages during the 2 hours i'm out tomorrow
