Advice: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer or Music?

Is the only difference between the two; the 64meg RAM?

Yet, I hear theres problems with the ram, making cracks or pops when in game. Not sure if or how its gonna get fixed.

So this is making me lean towards the music card. Any reasons I shouldnt?

as long as its not the newly release gamer (half height card) id recommend just the xtreme music.

I've got the extreme x-fi and i haven't noticed any pops or crackles during gameplay. I've only played fear, titan quest and dawn of war on it so far though...

I'm another extreme x-fi owner, never had a problem with the card. No strange noises in games or otherwise. The best creative have given us so far.......

There have been issues with crackling etc but it appears this occurs with the SLi rigs on Nvidia systems. Have a look at the EVGA forums and you will find a number of complaints there. Just in the process of buying an Extreme music without the XRam. In reviews it appears to little diff if your using it for gaming.

Simply go for an oem music; can be bought pretty cheap.

A friend is using a 9800pro and gets the cracking noise.

Re crackling. This was eventually resolved for some by a bios update to the 680i mobo, however it did not work for all. I would go for the oem music. I have one on a NForce 4 MSI mobo with 7900GTX's in SLi and have no issues. Tried it in single card and still no problem. I think it is a driver/mobo bios issue.

Thanks Drat. I guess the RAM aint really worth the hassle. At least with a todays spec PC.

I guess it might be importain for older slower PC's, right?

Neither the Xtreme Music or Gamer have any X-RAM.

You'd have to folk out for the 'Fatal1ty' or Platinum versions of X-Fi to get that, and at least for now, X-RAM is useless anyway.
