Updated bios on Asus A8V Deluxe and now..

It hard locks in windows quite often. Sometimes it just it locks on the windows loading screen or when it tries to load windows. So...it's kind of annoying. The board worked fine before this. We've also reverted back from the 1017 (or whatever) bios to the 1014 (which was on before) and it still happens. The update was to allow us to put the X2 4600 in, which went in fine but it's still locking up :/

Any ideas guys? We've formatted and things seemed ok until IE7 went near the PC.

I have been using 1017 for some time and as far as i remember it supports cpu's up to fx 60 and x2 4800 (Cant remember exactly but it definetely supported the top end dual core chips)

I just had a look on asus and i see the 1018 version of the bios is on beta. That could be the problem.

using 1017 for a while now with no issues on two boards.

One with an Fx 60
One with a X2 4200

Have you tried entering the bios setting the changes to default / playing with the settings

You're not using a boot logo built into the bios are you ?

Boot logo is off. Defaults have been tried many times.

tried silly things like mem test for a few hours checking the ram.

If you've reverted back to the origional bios then its quite possible something else is failing / a problem.

I've ran a few passes fine. This is really bugging me. All voltages are fine.

depends if the ram voltage was upped pre update.

No it wasn't.

is the PSU up to the job of supplying the new chip ?

It's an Antec 480 Trueblue. Also - the pc was crashing before the new chip.
