Question new mobo, now what processor...

    hi

thanks to all you guys help on my previous thread, i now have a nice nf7-s v2 mobo sitting in a box. what processor should i get. don't wanna break the bank now.

is the xp2500 'barton' core 333 mhz one good and also good at £72 inc vat?

also, should i stick to 3200 ram or go cheaper and opt for 2700?

    thanks in advance!

Well you've made a good choice of motherboard, the Barton 2500xp is a very good processor, capable of going to 3200xp. Though please bare in mind that they are now clock locked (or at least thats my last update on this)

So you can overclock them sure, but its only with the FSB as an option, you can't change the multiplier any more.

I personally would go with PC3200 ram, we're talking hardly any difference in cost, for a much more chances of being usuable in the future...

so i'd say get the barton 2500xp, and some pc3200 ram, twinmos w/winbond, or something similar and if you want to do some overclocking crank the 2500xp up to 200fsb instead of its standard 166 bus and it will make it a 3200xp, not bad for £71inc vat

There is a guy on Ebay selling XP2500s that will go to 3200.....he tests them first and gives a warranty to that effect......they are around £79 I think......which is high for a 2500 but giving them away for a 3200 if you see what I mean.
To benifit from them fully you would be best off with the PC3200 memory.

btw....when I last looked he had 46 of them for sale.

will do that now then. i saw that ebay ad and i thought it looked dodgy! if someone has oredered one and it's ligit, i may go there. but if i can crank it 'slowly' up mayself, not really into this o'c'ing lark yet - shi*t scared - it's nice to know that the barton will run at that speed.

what's winbond? and will i need some seperate gell stuff to attach the heatsink as my 2000 didn't need it.

also spotted a nice cooller in pc world. coler master aero 7 which looked a beast. any good?

I've just order an xp2800+ (week 0330) Barton from cpucity, these are supposed to clock like hell (I've heard of ppl doing 2.5Ghz on air with them) as well as being pre-week 39, so they're unlocked - I can't post any results on what I get from mine until next week tho

Aero 7's are supposed to be quite good, but I've just ordered an slk myself

50 posts to view the for sale forum - and mods don't take kindly to trading being mentioned outside of the trading forum
